Settings
Turn iPhone photos into JPGs that open everywhere, on your own device, as many at once as you like.
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default: half the size of a JPG, but plenty of places still refuse it. Older Windows PCs, many upload forms, print kiosks and some email clients only take JPG. This converter decodes each HEIC in your browser and writes a regular JPG, with the date taken kept and the GPS location removed unless you say otherwise. Drop a whole camera roll export at once; nothing is sent to a server, and you get the files back one by one or as a single ZIP.
How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Drop your .heic or .heif files (or a whole folder export) into the box above, or tap to pick them from Photos or Files.
- Leave quality at 90 for photos you keep; drop it to 75–80 if the JPGs are going into an email or a web form.
- Press Convert, then save each JPG or download everything as one ZIP.
What happens to quality, size and metadata
HEIC stores the photo with a far more efficient codec than JPG, so the same picture usually needs more bytes as a JPG. Expect the JPG to be larger than the HEIC at quality 90, and close to the HEIC size around 75–80. At 90 the difference from the original is very hard to see even when zoomed in.
Metadata: the JPG keeps the date taken and the camera make and model, so photo apps still sort it on the right day. GPS coordinates are removed by default; switch off “Remove location” if you want them kept. Rotation is applied to the pixels, so the photo stands upright everywhere. HDR photos come out as standard-range JPGs: the extra brightness headroom has no place in a JPG.

HEIC HEIC is the photo format iPhones and iPads save by default since iOS 11. It is the HEIF container from MPEG holding pictures compressed with the HEVC video codec, so a photo takes roughly half the space of a JPG of similar quality. It can also hold depth maps, bursts and the still frame of a Live Photo.
JPG JPG is the lossy photo format standardised in 1992 as ITU-T T.81. It throws away detail the eye barely notices, and the quality setting decides how much. It has no transparency and no animation, but every phone, computer, browser, printer and upload form opens it.

On an iPhone you can stop the problem at the source: Settings › Camera › Formats › Most Compatible makes the camera save JPG from now on. For photos you already took, Settings › Photos › Transfer to Mac or PC › Automatic converts them when you copy them to a computer by cable.
On a Mac, open the photo in Preview, choose File › Export and pick JPEG. On Windows 11, install HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store (some PCs also need HEVC Video Extensions), open the photo in Paint and use File › Save as › JPEG picture.

Troubleshooting
- The page received a JPG, not a HEIC. iOS sometimes converts photos while handing them to the browser. That is fine: we tell you and give the file back as it is.
- Live Photos. Only the still image converts. The short video is a separate MOV file that this page doesn’t touch.
- A burst or sequence. A HEIC that holds several images gives you the main one, and we show a note.
- 48 MP photos on a phone. They are huge in memory. Convert a few at a time, or set a max size such as 4000 px.
Questions and answers
How do I convert HEIC to JPG on Windows?
The quickest way is this page: open it in Edge or Chrome, drop the HEIC files and download the JPGs. Edge and Chrome can’t read HEIC themselves, so a small decoder downloads once and then runs offline. Without a browser, install HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store, open the photo in Paint and choose File › Save as › JPEG picture. That works for single files; for dozens of photos the batch here is faster.
Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
Technically yes, because JPG is a lossy format and the photo is encoded once more. In practice, at quality 90 you won’t see a difference on a screen or in a print. What you do lose is the HDR brightness on newer iPhones and some file-size efficiency: the JPG is usually larger. Keep the original HEICs if you want the best possible copy.
How do I stop my iPhone from taking HEIC photos?
Open Settings › Camera › Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos and videos are then saved as JPG and H.264 instead of HEIC and HEVC. The trade-off is space: each photo takes up roughly twice as much storage. Already-taken photos stay HEIC, so use this page for those, or set Settings › Photos › Transfer to Mac or PC to Automatic.
Why is my JPG bigger than the HEIC?
HEIC compresses photos about twice as efficiently as JPG, so a JPG of the same visual quality needs more bytes. That is normal, not a fault. If size matters, set quality to 75–80 or set a max size like 2000 px. For a hard limit, such as 200 KB for a form, use a compress-to-size page instead.
