Render PDF pages as lossless PNG images with razor-sharp text, entirely in your browser.
PNG is the right choice when a PDF page holds text, diagrams, charts or slides: it is lossless, so letters and thin lines have clean edges with no JPG “halo”. Use it to put a slide into a presentation, a diagram into documentation, a page of sheet music into a tutorial, or a chart into a wiki. This converter renders each page at 72, 150 or 300 DPI and saves it as PNG. It handles page ranges and password-protected files, and the PDF never leaves your device.
How to convert PDF to PNG
- Add the PDF and type its password if it has one.
- Choose the DPI (150 for screens and documents, 300 when the image will be printed or zoomed) and, if you only need some pages, a range such as 2-4 in “Pages”.
- Convert, then download single PNGs or the whole set as a ZIP.
What happens to quality, size and metadata
Nothing is lost after rendering: the page is drawn at the chosen DPI and saved with lossless compression, so text and lines are exactly as sharp as that resolution allows. The price is size. A text page at 150 DPI is often similar to a JPG, but a page with photos can be several times larger as PNG, so for photo-heavy pages PDF to JPG is the better choice. The page background is rendered as white, not transparent, matching what you see in a PDF viewer. No document metadata is copied. Fonts embedded in the PDF are used for drawing; the PNG is a picture, so its text can’t be selected or searched.

PDF PDF is a page-based document format created in 1993 and an open ISO standard (ISO 32000) since 2008. Each page keeps its exact layout, fonts and images, so it looks the same on every device. A PDF can hold scanned photos, text, vector drawings and forms.
PNG PNG is a lossless image format published by the W3C in 1996 and later as ISO/IEC 15948. Every pixel is kept exactly, and it supports full transparency, which makes it ideal for screenshots, logos and text. Photos saved as PNG are usually several times larger than as JPG.

Without this site
Mac: in Preview choose File › Export, set Format to PNG and the resolution; it exports the current page, so repeat per page. iPhone: the Shortcuts action “Make Image from PDF Page” followed by “Convert Image” (set to PNG) produces one PNG per page. Windows has no built-in PDF export to PNG; the Snipping Tool can save a screen capture of a page as PNG at screen resolution. Android: a screenshot of the page in your PDF viewer is saved as PNG.
Troubleshooting
- The PNG files are huge. Pages with photos compress poorly as PNG. Use 150 DPI, or PDF to JPG for those pages.
- I wanted a transparent background. PDF pages are rendered on white, like in a viewer. Remove the background in an image editor if you need transparency.
- Text looks fuzzy when zoomed. Render at 300 DPI; PNG keeps whatever detail the DPI gives, no more.
- Some characters are missing. Rare PDFs use fonts that aren’t embedded; the browser substitutes a similar font. Ask for a PDF with embedded fonts.
Questions and answers
Is PNG or JPG better for converting a PDF?
For text, slides, charts and line drawings, PNG: it is lossless, so edges stay crisp and file sizes are reasonable. For scanned photos or pages full of pictures, JPG: it makes much smaller files and the small loss is invisible in photos. Many people use PNG for documents and JPG for photo pages.
What DPI should I use to convert a PDF to PNG?
150 DPI suits screens, presentations and documentation: an A4 page becomes about 1240 pixels wide. 300 DPI is print quality (2480 pixels wide for A4) and useful when people will zoom in. 72 DPI is enough only for small previews or thumbnails.
How do I convert a password-protected PDF to PNG?
Add the file and the page asks for the password. It is passed to the PDF reader in your browser to open the document, used once and never saved or sent anywhere. If you mistype it, you are asked again. Without the password the pages can’t be rendered.
Can I convert a multi-page PDF to PNG all at once?
Yes. Leave “Pages” empty and every page is rendered, then download them together as a ZIP named after the PDF with page numbers (-p1, -p2…). Documents with more than 50 pages are done in ranges, for example 1-50 and then 51-100, so the browser stays responsive.
